Welcome to the Coedybryn Community Website

Dylunwyd gan/designed by Martha Brown Comisiynwyd gan/commissioned by Cymdeithas Plant y Bryn ® 2022The book "Ffrwyth y Coed’’, which outlines the  History of Education in the Coedybryn Area 1738-2016",  was published in 2022. The book title translates as ‘Fruits of the Trees’ and one of the fruits  is this website. The wealth of information gathered about the history of the school has resulted in a lot more information about the history of the area and the people - through pictures, people's memories, documents and other sources. To a large extent the book was a starting point for gathering information and to record a very important part of the development of the area and its change over time. The website opens another door and offers an opportunity to record a great deal more about the area, the people, old and new traditions and past and present events.

What is the history of  Crug y Balog and other historic sites in the area? Where did the names Lôn Winllan, Gernos and Allt y Clochdy come from? What is the origin of names such as Blaen-bach-crydd, Afon Cwerchyr, Penrhiw-pâl and Glynhynod?  In what ways has farming and lifestyle changed over time? Who was….? What happened in...? Some of the answers can be found on this website.

Clawdd Ffrwyth y CoedAbout Us

A small number of individuals came together to form the Cymdeithas Plant y Bryn committee in 2019. The committee was set up with the aim of publishing a book tracing  the history of Coedybryn school and the area. The Covid 19 pandemic arrived and prevented us from meeting face to face, but by the end of 2021 we were successful in our application for a grant awarded by The National Lottery, Cadw and the Welsh Government.

The  book "Ffrwyth  y Coed" was published in early 2022 and outlines the history of education in the area. This website, along with various other activities, is the fruit of the work done since that publication.
